Guitar is a string instruments that needs no introduction to the new age globalised world. The tone of an acoustic guitar is produced by the strings’ vibration, amplified by the hollow body of the guitar, which acts as a resonating chamber. The classical guitar is often played as a solo instrument using a comprehensive finger-picking technique where each string is plucked individually by the player’s fingers, as opposed to being strummed. The acoustic bass guitar is a low-pitched instrument that is one octave below a regular guitar. Electric guitars, introduced in the 1930s, use an amplifier and a Loudspeaker that both makes the sound of the instrument loud.

Carnatic Music

Carnatic music is a system of music commonly associated to the south of India, and is one of the two main subgenres of Indian classical music that evolved from ancient Hindu traditions. The basic elements of sruthi (the relative musical pitch), swara (the musical sound of a single note), raaga (the mode or melodic formulæ), and tala (the rhythmic cycles) form the foundation of improvisation and composition in Carnatic music. Carnatic music is mainly sung through compositions, especially the kriti (or kirtanam) – a form developed between the 14th and 20th centuries by composers such as Purandara Dasa and the Trinity of Carnatic music, ie, Sri Tyagaraja, Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar and Sri Syama Sastri.

We at Charukesi are greatly inspired by their works, and it is in this spirit that we take a vow to continue their legacy by training our students in Carnatic music through our highly experienced and well acclaimed Carnatic Music Teachers.
